The first seeds of Ribston Pippin were planted way back in 2004. Having gone to university in France, years ago Lisa had always wanted to live in France, so we upped roots and made the move. Within a few months Lisa has been recruited by Century 21 estate agency. Andy put his hands to more manual work, renovating several properties and managing the build of three new houses
Understanding clients were really appreciating personal customer service, Lisa and Andy decided to set up on their own independent agency. At the time the pound, dollar and Australian dollar were strong so many anglophiles were buying property in France. We helped hundreds of clients buy their “pied a terre”.
Children! With the arrival of a son, our world changed and our family tree was calling and so we moved back to Yorkshire. Within weeks Lisa was working for a corporate estate agency. So the language was different but the concept stays the same, buying or selling a house is all about people, this seemed to have been forgotten.
So let’s set up an agency again, there are some well-established firms locally, but no-one seems to be doing anything different. We were shocked to see some agencies still didn’t include floorplans, whilst others still produced the same monotonous sales brochures they did when typewriters were state of the art!
We are often asked why the name “Ribston Pippin”, initially we felt that the marketplace is full of companies bearing a surname or pair of surnames, we wanted to be different, memorable and definitely unique. Ribston pippin seeds were sent from France to Yorkshire and that’s where they grew- we wanted to grow in Yorkshire, put down roots and create an agency which is approachable, consultative and genuinely useful.

Our first sale- property instructed on the 21st of June and sold for full asking price on the 25th of June, having been marketed by an established local agent for over a year (at the same price).
More than £8 million pounds of property sold in our first year. We had some wonderful feedback from clients, “What is it you do? We see a for sale board go up and straight away sold?”
